It’s not all sunshine and roses, though. Options strategies will have margin requirements—especially strategies involving short options. If you’re short a put in a synthetic long, for example, your broker will likely require a margin deposit reflecting the underlying risk. This can sometimes erode the “capital efficiency” of the synthetic. On the flip side, margin can also provide leverage if used carefully.

Transaction costs might be higher for multi-leg strategies. Each leg you trade can involve bid–ask spreads and commissions.
